Community Support
This is a “grass roots” project and requires strong support from the community. There will most likely be no financial support from the City – we are treated like a for-profit developer. We will further need support for the plans for the dog park. This includes surveyor, landscape planners, draftsman. If you have other skills that you think are of value to this development project and are willing to contribute your time and energy, please feel free to reach out to us.

Oct. 30th 2019 - New priority one dog park location identified
Park and Rec confirmed that dog parks can be developed also in the so called OP-2-1 zone, which allows us to consider many more potential dog park locations. Our new priority one location is the Lake Murray Peninsula. Please see the updates in the dog park location menu. We have walked the area with Park and Rec and have received very positive feedback for such a development. However, there is still a long and rocky road ahead of us...

July 2nd 2019 - Sponsor Group established
The Allied Gardens / Grantville Community Council (AGGCC) voted unanimously to act as the initial SPONSOR Group for the Beyond Leashes grass roots movement to establish a dog park in San Diego District 7.
Legal Organization / Sponsor Group
Shain Haug, President of Allied Gardens / Grantville Community Council (AGGCC), proposed to utilize their existing non-profit organization 501 (c)(4) as the legal “sponsor group” for this dog park project; The AGGCC board has unanimously votes in favor of this proposal, so that I am very pleased to say that we took this first big hurdle. This also allows us to accept donations for the approval process (city fees alone around 5,000.-). Once the approval for the dog park is received and the actual development of the dog park can start, it is the wish/goal to form an independent non-profit organization 501 (c)(3) and to separate the activity from the AGGCC. This newly formed non-profit would allow donors to take charitable tax deductions. This organization will need board members to operate and I hope we will find people in the community willing to engage in such activities. But for now, we have something to get started with, and I would like to thank Shain for the support from the AGGCC!
Recreation Advisory Group Approval
A petition with strong community support and a detailed, formal proposal for the dog park development needs to be presented to the Recreation Advisory group. After the Park and Rec Advisory Group supports the project, it is moved on to the General Plan Amendment and Park Board. Once we have a detailed proposal for the dog park, Andy Fields will assign a contact person to us to help us work through the process.
We will keep you posted on the next developments! Please spread the word for people to sign up in support of the movement “Beyond Leashes”.
